My name is Tess Bedell. I am a first-year undergraduate student at the University of Florida. I am currently enrolled in the class HOS1014 - Vegetable Gardening. Over the course of the 2012 Fall Semester, I will be taking care of four vegetable beds, each with fifteen plots of land. My garden will begin from scratch, with my care and creativity as nutrients to help it flourish! This blog will serve as the documentation of my gardening adventure.

Week #6

This week in class we had our first quiz, so we didn't have a lecture. Instead we were told to examine where our own personal food comes from. I buy most of my food from Ward's Supermarket, a locally-owned grocery store in Gainesville. I buy produce, bread, cereals, and cheeses from here that are all fresh and also made locally. Some of the produce is organic too, like the grapes! I also like to get their homemade preservatives and sweet tea. The local food tastes better and helps support people in the community.

In the garden, I didn't plant anything new. I spent my time weeding, fertilizing, and spraying my veggies. I found an evil caterpillar who was DESTROYING my zucchini. My poor plant had gigantic chewing spots on the leaves.

Good news, though, is that I have tiny little ladybug peppers growing! My three beans are also looking rather lush now.

See ya in Week 7!
